In my junior year at Carleton, I assisted graduate students in Princeton University’s Geosciences department. This role involved a variety of tasks and handling hundreds of samples, each requiring careful organizing, labeling, and documenting. Some days I spent sorting a warehouse of large hand samples, the next cutting the rocks in preparation for thin sections, and on others I meticulously weighed and measured powdered control samples for laboratory testing. The most valuable part of the experience was interacting with and learning from the students, professors and visiting speakers on campus.
